San Diego’s LGBTQ+ community brought the sunshine, sass, and snacks to Balboa Park this May for the much-anticipated Big Gay Picnic: The Gay Outdoors! This all-ages event was a radiant celebration of queer community, nature, and friendship—proving once again that pride doesn’t need a dance floor to thrive.

More than just a casual day in the park, the Big Gay Picnic is a community-powered gathering that centers joy, connection, and visibility. This year’s event partnered with Pride In My Pines, an LGBTQ+ outdoor and camping organization, to highlight the importance of queer presence in nature and outdoor spaces.

Attendees brought their favorite picnic blankets, snacks, and drinks to share, creating a colorful patchwork of laughter and love across the lawn. The vibe was relaxed but festive, with games, music, and spontaneous dance circles popping up throughout the day.

This June, we’re teaming up with the amazing folks at America’s Finest City Softball League to bring you a picnic full of fierce community spirit, fabulous fun, and a whole lotta Pride. AFCSL will be joining us at the picnic with games, good vibes, and maybe even a little softball sparkle. Come meet players, make new friends, and celebrate what it means to show up loud, proud, and unapologetically YOU.
